“The Cincinnati Pops’ Lollipops Family Concerts are interactive programs specifically designed for children aged three to ten and their families. This weekend, the program will feature a new orchestral piece from lauded composers Jason Robert Brown and Georgia Stitt.  The piece, which is described as “a vibrant celebration of the season,” is a musical adaptation of Lois Ehlert’s timeless children’s book Waiting for Wings. “The CD’s centerpiece, Sing Out, Mr. President, is a song cycle of 16 new compositions set to quotations from American presidents. The songs will be written by a number of American composers including Jason Robert Brown, Larry Hochman, Andrew Lippa, Samuel Adler, Milton Babbitt, Robert Beaser, Thomas Cabaniss, Jake Heggie, Michael Gilbertson, Paul Moravec, Georgia Stitt, Jesse Wiener, Nico Muhly, Nora Kroll-Rosenbaum and Zachary Wadsworth. Seeing the announcement that New York’s Colony Records is also closing is shocking and sad. It’s definitely the end of an era. When my songbook [“This Ordinary Thursday”] came out in 2007, the first place I went to look for it was Colony.
